Teeth whitening

Everyone wants to have a perfect smile, keeping your teeth healthy and eating correctly is one step to ensuring this. However it is inevitable that over time your teeth will get stained no matter how much you look after them. Teeth whitening will remedy this and will restore teeth back to the whiteness you want them to be.

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure that involves bleaching your teeth in order to make them appear whiter. There are a few different methods to achieve this and can be done both at home or by a dentist.
If you opt for professional treatments through a dentist they are available in two forms; in-office and at-home. Generally in-office treatments are the most costly and may require multiple visits.  The peroxide agents that the dentists use can be applied either directly or using trays, and a laser or some light source may also be used to supplement this procedure and makes the process a lot quicker. Although this method tends to be the most expensive it is advantageous to that of other methods because it effects can be seen immediately, not only this but it can improve the whiteness of your teeth by a significant number of shades, in excess of 5 shades. The problem with this procedure is that it may cause some sensitivity in your teeth, however this will only be temporary.

When such procedures are performed at home it is known as professionally supervised tooth whitening. It is similar to in-house dentist treatments and it is effective on stains. With this method the dentist produces a customised tray for you, which is a mould of your teeth. Once you have this you will be provided with a peroxide based gel that you fill the tray with then apply to your teeth. The results for this procedure are also very effective and can improve teeth by 6 or more shades, but improvement tends to be more gradual. The ingredients used for this type of teeth whitening are available privately, however due to the regulation of such products these should be purchased with caution and as they may be dangerous, as they did not necessarily adhere to the regulation provided.

There are also less expensive methods available in the form of teeth whitening strips and paint on products.  This are a lot more cost effective however they do not provide as successful results and generally only whiten your teeth by up to two shades. So if you would be happy with results that are not as extensive as those procedures provided by dentists than these are a great alternative. Some companys that offer these services  Dentists in Bromley recommend local dentists.

When you do not get your teeth whitened professionally ensure that you thoroughly check the source of the whitening product as they may cause some damage. This is because some of the products available contain acid-based agents combined with peroxide. These acidic ingredients may damage teeth and the soft tissues in your mouth. Additionally, because the trays provided in such products are not customised, some consumers of them may swallow the whitening product.

Regular check ups can also improve general dental health, for more advise Regular Check Ups  is a great site to look at.
